What Remains

I miss your eyes, love
and the way they look at me
like I am something wonderful
someone I never dreamed I’d be

I miss your voice, beloved
and the way you say my name
like the word is somehow precious
I will never be the same

I miss your touch, my dearest
and your lips’ soft touch on mine
the way the world would fall away
and time forgot its time

I miss the stolen moments
when words could not express
how just breathing in your nearness
said everything I couldn’t confess

I miss who I became there
inside your steady light
braver than I had ever been
where peace took away my fight

If missing is the measure
of how deeply love can be
then every ache I carry now
is proof you changed me

And if you never come back again
know that I still love you—
I’ll take with me all that you gave
because for a moment, you loved me too
